MKE Week 3 – Today I Begin a New Life!
At the beginning of 2026, I made a commitment to fast from television. I unplugged my TV, determined to spend my time more intentionally.
But three months into the New Year my daughter and glambaby would come into my bedroom to watch their favorite shows. Although I wasn’t watching, they would sometimes leave the television on when they left the room.
Before I knew it, the television had become background noise. I wasn’t watching anything. I had simply grown accustomed to having it on.
Two months, my daughter and glambaby moved to New York, but guess what stayed behind?
The habit!
Isn’t it amazing how easily we develop habits without even realizing it?
As I began reading Scroll I of The Greatest Salesman in the World, one statement really struck me:
“I will form good habits and become their slave.” Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World
I realized that I had allowed something I never intended to become part of my daily routine.
Today, October 16, 2026, would have been my earthly father’s 101st birthday. His birthday has always held special significance in my life, but this year it brought a powerful realization.
It was time to put down a habit that was taking up space in the life I wanted to live.
So I unplugged the television, placed the remote beside it, and opened the books that had been sitting on my bookshelves.
And oh, what a difference!
I’m reading, studying, learning, and filling my mind with possibilities instead of background noise.
Each day is full of LIFE! My focus has returned!
What I’ve discovered is that changing our lives doesn’t always require some enormous action. Sometimes it begins with recognizing an unconscious habit and intentionally replacing it with one that serves our purpose.
I want to become the amazing being my earthly father and my Heavenly Father created me to be.
And today, I took another step toward that purpose.
The television is unplugged. The books are open. And my mind is alive!
TODAY I BEGIN A NEW LIFE!
I always keep my promises,
Jacqueline

This is great, Jacqueline – how wonderful to choose positive habits!
Congratulations on giving up television! Last year I watched a lot of television mostly preachers and HGTV. This year I’m reading, and watching YouTube training videos. I tried to watch television a few times but my brain doesn’t want to any more.
